Wire brushes are for cleaning and also for producing a satin finish on jewelry. As with all textures, the finish will vary depending upon the speed of the motor, the diameter of the brush, the length of the bristles and the stiffness of the bristles (stiffness differs with the nature of the strands--steel or brass, crimped or straight, thick or thin).
